President’s Report July-August 2017

As mentioned in my report in the May 2017 issue, I have been overseas for the last two months on holiday. I spent a month in Poland visiting family and friends. This was such a special and emotional time. Poland has certainly changed since my last visit which was 33 years ago. Whilst it’s great to be home again, I’m already planning my next trip.

As another term for the current Executive Committee comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Executive Committee for the work that they have done throughout the year. A lot of hard work and time has been spent working behind the scenes to ensure the successful running of the Polish Association. We are all volunteers and most of us have full-time jobs, so the effort from all of the Executive Committee is very much appreciated. Thank you all – its been a pleasure working with you all.

I would also like to thank all our Polish Assn members for your on-going support of me in my role as president. Your support is very encouraging and makes a real difference. To Father Tadeusz Świątkowski, the Polish Ambassador, Mr Zbigniew Gniatkowski, the Polish Consul Mrs Agnieszka Kacperska, and all the organisations and groups in our Polish community – a huge thank you for the great work that continues to be done by you all. It’s great to see everybody working in such a collaborative way for the good of our Polish Community.

We all have similar interests and goals for our community so working with the other groups does ultimately result in benefits for the whole community.

IMPORTANT NOTICE  AGM important date gif

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Polish Association of New Zealand (Inc.) is scheduled for Sunday, 27 August 2017 at 3pm. I would like to encourage all our members to attend this meeting. It is important that you are able to be part of the decision making going forward. Id also like to advise that 5 members of the current Executive Committee will be standing down (including myself and Tadek Wypych (Vice-President & Treasurer). We are therefore seeking nominations for people who might be interested in joining the Executive Committee, and invite you to consider any members of our Polish community who would be willing to contribute to the work of this committee. Nominees need to have been a member of the Polish Association for 1 year in order to be eligible to stand. Please give this serious consideration and if you have a nominee in mind, please let us know at least three weeks prior to the AGM. If you have any questions about what being on the Executive Committee involves, please do not hesitate to call me or any other committee member.

The annual and financial reports from the Executive Committee are currently being prepared. They will be sent out to all members in a separate mail-out at the beginning of August 2017. Please take the time to read these and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Executive Committee.
