Orlęta February Newsletter

Newsletter February  – Welcome back to Polish folkloric dance 2019

Firstly congratulations to everyone for achieving the impossible with countless hours of fundraising and support of our young dancers over the last 2 years. We made it!!!

Orlęta dancers were well represented at Polart Brisbane 2018. The organisers under the watchful eye of Polart Inc., prepared a ten day Polish cultural feast for visitors and hundreds of participants from all over Australia and New Zealand. Brawo Brisbane!

Orlęta featured in the Childrens Day artistic performances with their Kujawiak (Czerwone Jabłuszko) – Oberek and Krakowiak (Zabawa w Krakowie). The venue (State Library of Queensland), was abuzz with activities for children, stalls, music, food and entertainment for all ages. It was a brilliant and fitting event to launch Polart 2018.

A few days later, our senior girls joined with Lublin for the 2nd Folkloric concert to perform at the Redlands Performing Arts Centre. Their newly choreographed dance “Nikodem” 1930s style, was an instant success with the audience and a fun experience for our dancers.

The final day of the festival was held at the South Bank Piazza where Orlęta once again performed their Krakowiak and fielded lots of praise and encouragement for their interpretation of the dance. Thank you Juliet for your unique and clever choreography and congratulations to Catherine, Jaxon, Caitlin, Rebecca, Marysia, Sophie, Miles and Daniela for your joyful performances.

Highlights from Brisbane included, films, literature, music, food and exhibitions. It included making flowered wreaths for the New Years Ball, Kolędy concert and mass in the cathedral, visits to the Koala Sanctuary, Australia Zoo, Dreamworld and Sea World, shopping, riding the big wheel, swimming at the beach, dining at Polonia Polish Club, swimming and barbeques at the Quest apartments, making new friends and many many other experiences which will create lifelong memories for our young dancers.

Orlęta will reconvene following the workshop at El Rancho Waikanae on the 3rd March 2019. At this stage there will be classes for the Junior and Intermediate dancers on Sundays after polish school at Dom Polski. Senior Orlęta (11 years plus) will continue to run on Monday evenings at the usual time of 6pm. New dancers are welcome. Please contact Jennifer Hanson 027 3756004 or Ela Rombel 027 6605812 for information and registration.

I am excited to announce that this year we are planning another musical theatre production this time of The Wizard of Oz to show off our latest folkloric dances. The show will be choreographed with a “Polish” twist. The proposed date for the show is Sunday August 18th at the Little Theatre in Lower Hutt Please note this date in your diaries.

Pozdrawiam – Ela
