Music tells the story of “New Beginnings” for Pahiatua Children

SMP ensemble is presenting two Wellington concerts “New World, New beginnings” on the evenings of November 15th and 17th at St Andrew’s on the Terrace.

With endorsement from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, these will feature performances of international chamber works along with new commissions specifically written for this occasion, including one that Andrzej Nowicki has written  for soprano and ensemble.  These concerts  look to the past, paying homage to composers from the Childrens’ homeland, reflect on the shared history of New Zealand and Poland through the Pahiatua Children and on our ongoing tradition of welcoming refugees.

SMP Ensemble (www.smpensemble.com) is a collective of contemporary musicians, performers and composers based in Wellington. SMP Ensemble has been active since 2008 presenting concerts of cutting-edge New Zealand and international music, premiering new works of New Zealand and international composers as well as championing collaborations across genres and with the local community.

Please also check this link to an interview on Concert Radio  regarding these concerts.
