President’s newsletter- May 2017

What a busy month we just had. We have just celebrated Easter – a time to rejoice and be thankful. I hope
that everyone was able to enjoy the break and was able to spend time with family and friends at this
special time.
The Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Association organised the ANZAC DAY and KATYŃ commemorations – a
very significant part of our history. This year the mass service took place in the newly refurbished St Mary
of the Angels Cathedral in Wellington, alongside the New Zealand community, followed by a lunch held at
the Dom Polski.
We were also treated to a fabulous display of Polish folkloric culture. Our dance groups, Lublin and Orlęta,
together with Lajkonik, a visiting dance group from Sydney, Australia, put on a wonderful display of
dancing, singing and music at the Heart and Soul concert last week. The performances showcased, the
fabulous talent of the dancers, singers and musicians. Well done to all involved and a big thank you for
giving the community the chance to experience Poland’s rich folkloric culture and traditions through its
music, song and dance.
The Executive Committee continues to work hard behind the scenes, working on various projects
including the earthquake strengthening of the Dom Polski, as well as ongoing building maintenance work
and supporting the various groups within the Polish community.
