It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Roman Drecki. He died at his home on the 9th November 2023.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Roman by Fr Alfredo Garcia at St Thomas More Catholic Church, Glenfield, Auckland, on Thursday 16th November at 11am. The Rosary will commence 30 minutes before the Mass.

The main entrance to the church and parking are accessible from St Thomas More Lane off Glenfield Rd.

After the Mass, all are welcome to join friends and family for refreshments at the Parish Hall, which is a part of the Church complex.

Roman will be buried at North Shore Memorial Park, Schnapper Rock Rd, Albany, at 2pm on the same day.

Roman, with his wife Wanda, settled in Auckland in 2005, joining their two sons with families.

Roman was an active member of our community. For two terms, from 2014 to 2016, he was elected a member of the Executive of the Auckland Polish Association serving as Vice-President and Secretary respectively. He also was the Association representative to The Federation of Polish Organizations in New Zealand where he was also the Vice-President.

Roman will always be remembered as an excellent speaker at Polish House in Auckland, especially on topics from history of Poland. He taught history at Polish School. Between 2006 and 2014 he also organized a number of spiritual retreats for members of our Catholic Community in Auckland. The retreats were always led by Polish priests that Roman invited and fundraised for their airfares.

On behalf of the Polish community, the Executive of the Polish Association in New Zealand extends our sincerest condolences to the Drecki family.
