Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Polish Association in NZ
The Association came into being on 1st March 194 with Tadeusz Szczerbo-Niefiedowicz elected as the first President. Tadeusz is a hero of World War II and you can read about him in another poster. He is buried in the Karori Cemetery. For the occasion, the Association received permission to clean and tidy his grave site and on the 1st March 2023, the Executive committee met at his grave and placed a wreath in his honour.
Past Presidents and the executive committee celebrated the 75th Anniversary at a special dinner in August at Nicollini’s restaurant in Wellington. The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Mr Grzegorz Kowal presented a bouquet of flowers and a book titled “Heritage and Modernity”, as an anniversary gift to the Association.
A Polish Association Exhibition has been prepared by Irena Smolnicka-Lowe to mark our 75th Anniversary. It is being officially opened at this year’s Polish Festival 2023 so that we can remind ourselves about the richness of our culture and life within the Association over many years.
